Yay for Bright Spring-Lips!

Hi everyone!

Even though the sun still seems to be hibernating where I live, I woke up feeling optimistic today and so I thought I'd try out some fun lipcolors for spring/summer. This season is really all about color, whether you'd want to wear neons, pastels or just the usual bright pinks and reds. Combining these pretty lipcolors with a flashy nailpolish and a bright eyeliner (magenta lips + turquiose liner + yellow nails = success) will definitely make you stand out in the crowd.

First of all, when you want to be sporting your bright lip the right way, it's super important to prepare your lips for it. Scrubbing your lips beforehand is a step you must never forget, because lipstick will accentuate any minor imperfection on your lips. Scrubbing will eliminate any flakiness and dead skincells, giving you a super smooth surface to work with.

Next, you can use some foundation, concealer or liperaser to cancel out most of your natural lipcolor (see above). This step is not as important as the previous one, but especially if you tend to have some redness around your lips or if you want to change your lipshape slightly, this will make the end result look much more flawless.

"Cheeky Magenta"

This first color, a gorgeous magenta with quite an obvious blue undertone, is from the new L'Oreal Caresse line. The line contains twelve different colors ranging from neutral to superbright, like this one. The great thing about this particular lipstick, is that it's very easily buildable. In the left picture, I only applied one layer, which kind of gives it the appearance of a colored lipbalm. But then when I applied a second an third layer (blotting off the excess in between), it gave me this great color pay-off that you can see on the right side. The downside, however, is that the consistency is so smooth, you do have to re-apply this one very regularly. That doesn't have to be a bad thing though, if you're like me and you change your mind twenty times a day about whether or not you want to wear lipstick.
Anyway, let's formulate our final conclusion: "Cheeky Magenta" is a lovely, versatile lipstick that is very much on trend this season, and can give you everything ranging from a slight wash of color with a subtle shine, to full-on color with a high-gloss finish.

"Rouge Best"

The red lip will probably never lose its good name, just because literally everyone can pull it off. You might be brave enough to go for an intense true red with a matte finish, but for someone else a subtle sheer red gloss might be the way to go. Personally, I'm too careless to maintain a perfect red lip all day long, so during the day I usually go for a nice gloss or a sheer lipstick. The picture above shows you two bold ways to wear your red lip: supermatte or superglossy. I personally love a glossy lip, because I feel like it adds a bit of glamour to the look, while giving it a more casual feel at the same time. The lipstick I used in this picture is called "Rouge Best" by Bourjois. I've had this one as long as I can remember, so I'm not sure if this particular shade is still available. But I'm guessing there are about a million shades like this out there so no worries. :)

"Orange"

This bright orange one is quite a risky pick, because if you choose one that has the wrong undertone for your skin, it can wash you out completely. It's always safer to go for an orange that is not as intense as this one, like a sheer lipstick or a gloss. If you do want to go for a more full-on lip, an orangy red is a great alternative. But if you dare to be different, the bright orange I'm wearing in the picture could definitely work for you. It's the #26 lipstick refill by Make-Up Studio and it's a matte, true orange. If you want to wear it bold, do so when you're slightly tanned. Orange tones work best on tanned skin and on darker skintones in general, especially when you pair them up with a pretty golden highlight on your eyes and cheekbones.

"Play the Plum"

This purple plum might not be the first color that pops into your head when you're thinking of summer, but let's think out of the box for a change. This would look stunning at a party when you combine it with barely-there eye make-up and some dewy, glowy skin. With this particular lipstick, "Play the Plum" (#170) by Catrice, the glossy finish will make the look less heavy, more layed back and totally suited for summer.

"Ombre Awesomeness"

This last bright lipstick idea for summer is one of my personal favorites, yet the biggest pain in the ass to be touching up all day. It's super easy to create though: Just pick two colors that look good together, apply one to the center of your lips and the other to the corners, and blend together with a lipbrush. The downside is that you're going to have to bring the two lipsticks and your lipbrush with you to keep them looking flawless throughout the day. But if you're willing to put that much effort in, I promise you, you'll be the talk of the town with these babies. Here I used Make-Up Studio's #26 for the orange in the center and #18 for the raspberry-pink in the corners.

I hope this inspires you to try something different this season, I know I will! See you at my next post!
